On Exhibit:  Paintings by Tim Folzenlogen

Visit the Library’s gallery space upstairs to view Mr. Folzenlogen’s work.  It can also be found throughout the building in the stairwells and on the main floor.

FROM THE ARTIST:

I’ve shown a lot in galleries, had a lot of success, but I dropped out, because great painting does not give up hardly anything in the short time people spend in a gallery. One doesn’t need to go to school to understand great paintings. It’s more like understanding great cooking. One just needs exposure. Four months in a contemplative beautiful library. It doesn’t get any better than this.

The Universe Series is about the viewer in relation to all that is out there. Everything we don’t know, which is almost everything, lies beyond what we know. We have barely begun to emerge from the cave. You can view this entire ongoing series at the top of my homepage:  www.timfolzenlogen.com

The Story behind Margaret’s Crosswalks can be read on my website, along with images of all 18 paintings and 21 drawings.  I always paint in series. There is a lot of metaphor involved (opposite sides merging, crossing to the other side, that kind of thing). I did an earlier crosswalk series in which the heads of the people were cropped off, meaning that we don’t really see or experience each other.  See the crosswalk paintings in my New Yorker in Japan series, in “Projects,” for examples.
