Book Review Crew: Teen Volunteer Program

The Book Review Crew program encourages teens to read books and write reviews to share with the community.

  • ARCs: The library periodically receives Advanced Reading Copies (ARCs) of YA books. You can see the list of available ARCs here. Books are first come, first serve and are yours to keep. To claim one of these books, send Ms. Jenna an email ingham@veronalibrary.org with the title you’d like to read and review.
  • Off the Shelf: You also have the option to review any book available in the Teen Room at Verona Public Library, or a teen or middle grade book available on Libby or Hoopla. Fill out the Book Review Request form below for approval for the book you’d like to review.
  • Need some suggestions? If you’re not sure what to read, or just want to shake up your usual reading habits, contact Ms. Jenna for book recommendations at ingham@veronalibrary.org

You earn credit for reading the book plus contributing a book review. The total credit hours you earn is based on the number of pages in the book you read.

  • You earn 1 hour per 100 pages (rounded to the nearest hundred.) For example, a book that is 315 pages counts as 3 hours; a book that is 468 pages counts as 5 hours, etc.
  • You earn 1 hour for writing and submitting the book review.

So the total time you’d earn for reviewing a 315 page book is 4 hours; and a book that is 468 pages would be 6 hours, etc.

The book you want to review must be available to Verona Library patrons.
This is so we can calculate your community service hours.
You don’t have to read a library copy for your review, but you must make sure the book is accessible to library patrons.

After either obtaining an ARC or receiving approval for your book selection, it’s time to submit your review!

We need your real name to make sure you get community service credit.
